These deep brown, transparent feather earrings are made from facewash bottles (and very limited!). They are thick plastic but lightweight and see through, giving a beautiful shimmer when worn.
Piopio were a native Old World Sparrow (order Passeriformes, Family Oriolidae) that Buller described as having the most beautiful calls of any New Zealand bird. They were also able to mimic the calls of other birds and would have been an incredible sight to see. Unfortunately, the last confirmed sighting of a Piopio occurred in the early 20th century. The exact cause of its extinction is not fully understood, but like so many of our beautiful natives fate, was likely due to a combination of factors.
