Recycling Week Thoughts
Procurement Monday
How we spend our money is really important! By purchasing from eco-friendly companies, we not only consume in a way that aligns with our values, but also support those businesses working hard to offer these options!
With our company, we not only select companies that align with our work but also request waste free options where possible - and often, it is totally accommodated! Like Brebner Print providing our printing without shrink wrap and Toner World refilling our cartridges and sending back in the same box.
Waste Free Tuesday
And following on from that - when you purchase from us, we send waste free! All of our packaging is made from recycled card and your goodies will be gift wrapped in beautiful paper purchased second hand!
We make sure we have designed waste out of all of our systems (bar maybe me wasting time!).
Reusables Wednesday
Rather than trying to figure out what bin things go in, you can just switch to reusables! I am a little bias, but I recon EcoSplat reusable water balloons are a great swap!! Switch from tradition water balloons that litter our gardens, rivers and oceans for fun, waste-free reusables.
Another of my much loved reusables is my coffee cup that I MADE MYSELF through Nikki WB's 'I'm a Keeper' project. The thing with a reusable cup that you love, is that you will always remember to take it with you!
Rinse & Clean Thursday
I've said it once and I will say it again, commercial recycling is complex and uses a lot of resources and energy - but the main that to know about it, is that EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE CLEAN! You can recycle peanut butter, so don't leave it in the jars. Contamination in bins can lead to entire trucks of recycling getting sent to landfill. Be sure to clean everything thoroughly and if you can't be bothered, then it has to go in the red bin.Reflection Friday
As mentioned, a great way to avoid the often confusing limitations of recycling is to swap to reusables where possible, shop at refill stores and/or purchase from brands that take back their packaging. I know that some times these things can be too hard around life - so just do what you can, when you can. It is better that everyone does a little than having a handful of people doing it perfectly!Spring Clean Weekend
Spring cleaning can be a very satisfying task - but often you have to be in the right mood! My trick is to put on some loud/dance music and get stuck in. If you are clearing out stuff, be sure to sort it into piles for second hand stores, reycycling and anything else that can't go to either of those, has to go in the bin (or be disposed of safely if it is old phones or batteries). If you are in Christchurch, be sure to check out my map of second hand stores to find some shops to donate to (or go shopping at!). Have fun!!
