Collaboration with Tiny Gecko Tail
There's a Facebook group that I believe anyone that loves nature and laughs should be a part of. It is called Wild Green Memes for Ecological Fiends and brings me so much joy. Essentially it is a community of nature-loving people that share memes and in-jokes that can span multiple years and has been described as "possibly the most enjoyable place on social media"*.
Each year, the group has a 'charity battle' where members choose a team and post relevant (and irrelevant) memes to gain supporters. Donations are made, teams are chosen and a winner is crowned. The funds support work of that year's chosen charity.
In 2023 a member of the group posted an offer: if you support their team, they will draw you a cute animal picture. I saw this and got excited for a custom bird illustration from a talented artist AND an opportunity to support a cause. I messaged and asked for a Kākāpō, made the donation and a few hours later was sent this little cutie:
Earlier this year, the artist Tiny Gecko Tail got in touch to propose a collaboration that would provide a purpose for their amazing doodles and allow me to use them for my sustainability work.
And so another bird collaboration is born! We are teaming up with Tiny Gecko Tail to showcase birds throughout the Forest and Bird, Bird of the Year campaign. So follow along, vote for your top birds, learn and have fun!!!
