Do you love birds? If yes, that means you also love dinosaurs, because birds are dinosaurs! These 'avian dinosaurs' are the only ones that survived the mass extinction that ended so many of your childhood (and adult) favourites.

This feather design is inspired by the first fossilised feather found - it is from an Archaeopteryx dinosaur, the oldest known bird, and is about 150 million years old! Pigment testing revealed it was black and paleontologists have concluded it is a flight feather  meaning it would have been along the dinosaur's wing.

I love learning about prehistory because it reminds me of the MASSIVE time scales of the world plus it helps me appreciate what is around us now - the fact that we have birds chirping and fluttering around us every day is just mind blowing to me! I hope this design gives you a wee insight into these feelings too!

If you are interested in learning more about these amazing animals check out my blog and Nature Magazine.

These earrings are made from 3D printer waste and every feather is different! The plastic is sourced from Kiwifil, another NZ recycling company and is material they couldn't use.

Dimensions: feather 5cm x 1cm at widest point.
Hooks: Hypoallergenic (silver in colour), clip on option available (silver in colour).
Made in Christchurch, NZ by Remix Plastic. We always ship plastic free.
