Kahukura, Red Admiral, are butterflies endemic to Aotearoa and found across the country. They were the winner of the 2024 Bug of the Year and conservation work is being done to increase their numbers after impacts from pesticides and habitat loss.
One way to help create spaces for Kahukura includes planting species that they feed and lay eggs on, unfortunately these are ongaonga tree nettles, and are poisonous to humans, meaning lots of people don't want them in their garden! But there is amazing work being done breeding them in captivity and releasing, and translocating populations to increase their area. Find out more here.
Our large wall hangings are made with layers of recycled 3D printer waste, creating sharp colour contrast and the bend of the wings make the butterfly art even more eye catching! Perfect for your cabinet of curiosities or that awkward wee wall that needs some nature inspired art!
And now you can have these majestic creatures adorn your hallway with our wall art!
PLEASE NOTE: these cannot be placed in direct sunlight as the PLA plastic will warp with heat. Hang with the metal hook on the back, or your preference of 3M options. Blutak can be used to hang on angles.
