The 2025 Bird of the Year is here: The Kārearea / New Zealand Falcon!
The Kārearea is one of 38 falcon species found worldwide and are endemic to New Zealand. They often represent strength, agility and fierceness, flying at speeds up to 200km/hour to hunt prey, which can be larger than itself! The Kārearea are featured on the NZ $20 bill and also won Forest & Bird's Bird of the Year competition in 2012.
This natural red/brown colour looks like wood (or chocolate!?) and will go with any outfit! Not often are waste streams brown but I sourced a range of natural coloured 3D printer waste from our friends at Kiwifil in anticipation of this year’s campaign.
You can help support our lovely bird of prey and other impressive manu by purchasing and wearing this sustainable design - $2 from each pair sold goes to Forest & Bird to support their conservation mahi.
Dimensions: 5cm long (wing tip to wing tip), 2.5cm wide.
Hooks: Hypoallergenic (silver in colour), clip on option available (silver in colour, comment at checkout if you would like clip on).
Made in Christchurch, NZ by Remix Plastic. We always ship plastic free.
NOTE: Each pair of earrings is unique with its own colours (and blemishes) - they are fully functioning and we celebrate their uniqueness, as we hope you do! Please get in touch if you are not satisfied with your purchase and we will do what we can to resolve any issues in a timely manner.
