Our Tuna Earrings celebrate one of Aotearoa's most extraordinary travellers. Inspired by the tuna (New Zealand freshwater eels), these elegant earrings honour a species with an incredible life cycle. After spending decades in New Zealand's rivers and lakes, adult tuna undertake an massive migration thousands of kilometres into the Pacific Ocean to spawn. Their journey ends there, but the next generation begins. Tiny transparent larvae drift back towards New Zealand before making their way into our rivers and lakes, where they can spend decades growing before continuing the cycle. Learn more about their lives in this great article by Justine E. Hausheer.
Made from recycled 3D printer waste, these earrings are a reminder of the resilience of our freshwater ecosystems and the importance of protecting the waterways these remarkable creatures depend on.
